In what ways did the people die during the exodus?

By plague

At Passover (many)

Exo 11:1 ESV  The LORD said to Moses, “Yet one plague more I will bring upon Pharaoh and upon Egypt. Afterward he will let you go from here. When he lets you go, he will drive you away completely.

Golden calf incident (many)

Exo 32:35 ESV  Then the LORD sent a plague on the people, because they made the calf, the one that Aaron made.

The quail incident (very great plague)

Num 11:33 ESV  While the meat was yet between their teeth, before it was consumed, the anger of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD struck down the people with a very great plague.

The spies with the bad report (22 people)

Num 14:37 ESV  the men who brought up a bad report of the land—died by plague before the LORD.

The incident of Korah (14,700)

Num 16:44-49 ESV  and the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,  45  “Get away from the midst of this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.” And they fell on their faces.  46  And Moses said to Aaron, “Take your censer, and put fire on it from off the altar and lay incense on it and carry it quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them, for wrath has gone out from the LORD; the plague has begun.”  47  So Aaron took it as Moses said and ran into the midst of the assembly. And behold, the plague had already begun among the people. And he put on the incense and made atonement for the people.  48  And he stood between the dead and the living, and the plague was stopped.  49  Now those who died in the plague were 14,700, besides those who died in the affair of Korah.

Baal worship incident (24,000)

Num 25:3-9 ESV  So Israel yoked himself to Baal of Peor. And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel.  4  And the LORD said to Moses, “Take all the chiefs of the people and hang them in the sun before the LORD, that the fierce anger of the LORD may turn away from Israel.”  5  And Moses said to the judges of Israel, “Each of you kill those of his men who have yoked themselves to Baal of Peor.”  6  And behold, one of the people of Israel came and brought a Midianite woman to his family, in the sight of Moses and in the sight of the whole congregation of the people of Israel, while they were weeping in the entrance of the tent of meeting.  7  When Phinehas the son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose and left the congregation and took a spear in his hand  8  and went after the man of Israel into the chamber and pierced both of them, the man of Israel and the woman through her belly. Thus the plague on the people of Israel was stopped.  9  Nevertheless, those who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand.

Num 31:16 ESV  Behold, these, on Balaam’s advice, caused the people of Israel to act treacherously against the LORD in the incident of Peor, and so the plague came among the congregation of the LORD.

Jos 22:17 ESV  Have we not had enough of the sin at Peor from which even yet we have not cleansed ourselves, and for which there came a plague upon the congregation of the LORD,

By Fire

Complaint about their misfortune (many?)

Num 11:1-2 ESV  And the people complained in the hearing of the LORD about their misfortunes, and when the LORD heard it, his anger was kindled, and the fire of the LORD burned among them and consumed some outlying parts of the camp.  2  Then the people cried out to Moses, and Moses prayed to the LORD, and the fire died down.

Aaron’s sons the priests (2)

Lev 10:1-2 ESV  Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it and laid incense on it and offered unauthorized fire before the LORD, which he had not commanded them.  2  And fire came out from before the LORD and consumed them, and they died before the LORD.

Korah’s desire for the priesthood (250)

Num 16:35 ESV  And fire came out from the LORD and consumed the 250 men offering the incense.

Earthquake

Dathan and Abiram’s family (20?)

Num 16:29-31 ESV  If these men die as all men die, or if they are visited by the fate of all mankind, then the LORD has not sent me.  30  But if the LORD creates something new, and the ground opens its mouth and swallows them up with all that belongs to them, and they go down alive into Sheol, then you shall know that these men have despised the LORD.”  31  And as soon as he had finished speaking all these words, the ground under them split apart.
