We sung the chorus of this song at church today. It’s a good song. But one of my bugbears is that many of our songs tend to put us at the center.
That is, even when we are singing a song about the glory of God, we are praising Him for something He has done for us. Songs that simply glorify God for who He is apart from anything He has done for us seem to be much less common in charismatic circles.
So I thought I would use my never before used song writing skills and write some alternative words (in italics) that I could sing next time.
To God be the glory
To God be the glory
To God be the glory
For the things He has done
He’s the wonderful One
With His blood, He has saved me
He is holy, He is righteous
With His power, He has raised me.
He is kind and ferocious
He is kind and ferocious
To God be the glory
For the things he has done
Let’s sing to the awesome One.
Let’s sing to the awesome One.
