Do Christians have to give an account of their sins? (Verse List)

New Testament

2Co 5:9-11 ESV  So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.  10  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.  11  Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others. But what we are is known to God, and I hope it is known also to your conscience.

Rom 14:10-13 ESV  Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God;  11  for it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.”  12  So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.  13  Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother.

Heb 4:13 ESV  And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

Rom 2:15-16 ESV  They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them  16  on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.

1Co 4:4-5 ESV  For I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted. It is the Lord who judges me.  5  Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God.

Heb 13:16-17 ESV  Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.  17  Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.

Mat 12:36-37 ESV  I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak,  37  for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Luk 12:1-3 ESV  In the meantime, when so many thousands of the people had gathered together that they were trampling one another, he began to say to his disciples first, “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.  2  Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.  3  Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops.

Old Testament

Ecc 11:9 ESV  Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.

Ecc 12:13-14 ESV  The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.  14  For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.
