This notion that the devil is the real owner of planet earth is surprisingly pervasive… and foolish.
It springs from a few New Testament verses, some of which are spoken by Satan himself. Why Christians would assume what the ‘father of lies’ says is true is beyond me.
Of course a good liar is one who can tell a half truth. And there is enough truth in this lie to deceive some mature Christians.
But the scriptures overwhelmingly testify that God is both possessor and Lord of heaven and earth and that Satan does nothing which God does not expressly permit.
Genesis 14.19: And he blessed him and said, Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth;
Psalms 24.1: The earth is the LORD’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein,
Matthew 11.25: At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.
